This is Isca Sigings, a small layout, with the main, scenic section, measuring about 80cm long with track arranged in an Inglenook style shunting layout.
Key parts of the scenic are:
- Other than the coal merchants’ hut, which is a ratio (?) product, the buildings are from Metcalf Kits from a previous attempt at a layout
- The coal staithes and fences were built using wooden coffee stirrers.
- The background was printed from a Scale Model Scenery download.
- Lights are from Layouts4U
- Static Grass has been added using a cheap applicator from Amazon, using a blend of grasses.
- Track is Peco with points operated using selenoid motors.
Bare baseboard:
Now with a viewport and mock-up of the back scene
Items placed on the layout to get a feel for how things could look. Note the building on the right that did not make it on to the final plan
Before the application of the back scene, the sides and back boards were painted sky blue
And once again things were mocked up. Lighting at this point was provided by a fish tank LED light.
Backscene is now glued in place:
Jump forward a while and we see the concrete area, made from sculptamould and scribed to represent panels of concrete as well as the fence and coal staithes.
Also used as the header photo, this is more or less, baring a few details as shown below, where the layout is now and more or less completed
Old Bill props himself up, contemplating the days work ahead of him… several tons of coal to be shovelled and the two wagons that arrived yesterday need to be unloaded as well:
The lights illuminate the scene nicely, although the phone camera doesn’t really show how dim they actually were when I took this photo. The coal merchants 100e Anglia (based on an example we own) is parked up, either he is still about somewhere or it has broken down again…
The bike is a West Hills Wagon Works 3d printed example and is about the size of a 20p.
